The Green Man

A major recent addition to the Parsonage Gardens is the Green Man carved into the tree stump of the weeping ash. The ash tree was planted almost 200 years ago, but succumbed to ash die back and was finally felled last year. The Green Man is an ancient symbol of rebirth, representing the cycle of new life each spring. The carving was created by Andy Burgess, a very talented wood sculptor. It was paid for by an anonymous donor.

On Andy’s X account one person has tweeted “They (his new carvings) are all wonderful Andy, but that green man is particularly spectacular”.
